Opposites Attract

Recently I was reviewing some photographs I've taken a couple of years ago during a trip to India. One of the first places I've visited during my trip was Goa. There's no place quite like Goa. It has some unique sand textures that apparently don't exist anywhere else. The beaches are amazing, as are the markets and the music.

Unlike most of India which was under English control in the past, Goa was under Portuguese reign. This is very evident in the architecture which is unlike other parts of India.

One of the things I love about India is the way it is always trying to reconcile Indian culture with Western culture. This can be seen everywhere. In Mumbai I've seen camels alongside Bentleys and fish vendors at local markets near Louis Vuitton stores and it all makes sense in India.

Anyway, back to Goa, one of the things that I couldn't help notice were the various opposites that seemed to pop up all around me. Here are two of my favorite pictures that I've taken on Anjuna's beaches in Goa. The first one is of a mother and her child walking along the beach while eating watermelon, while passing by two cows (cows are sacred to Hindus and are deeply respected.) Whether you respect cows or not, I found this contrast quite interesting and unlike anything you'd see at any other beach.

The second photo emphasizes some of the differences between Indian tradition and Western culture.

East Vs. West

Here are a few additional photos I've taken in Goa.

Goa is also home to the Anjuna Market which takes place every Wednesday. The market is full of great colors and merchandise, but more importantly interesting faces to photograph!

I'd highly recommend anybody visit India. It really has something to share with everyone. Especially if you're a photographer!

Keep up the good light!
